Join us for a conversation with writer/director Felicia Pride. In her 30s, the founder of Create Daily, decided to leave her home on the East Coast and move to LA to pursue her Hollywood dreams. She has spent the last few years making amazing strides in the film and television world. Her award-winning short, Tender, is currently being turned into a feature!
In this conversation with journalist, Niema Jordan, Pride will share how she found her creative groove, made her way into the writers' room for Queen Sugar and sold her first films.

MEET FELICIA PRIDE
Felicia Pride is a Film / TV writer and director. She was a writer for two seasons on Ava DuVernay's QUEEN SUGAR. She sold a drama pilot, a book adaptation, to NBC's Universal Cable Productions. She sold the erotic romance DEEPER to Universal Pictures and is the co-writer and executive producer of the film REALLY LOVE, produced by MACRO, which won a Special Jury Prize at SXSW. She recently made her directorial debut with tender, a short film she also wrote, which won a Lionsgate / Starz award at BlackStar Film Festival. Felicia was a Film Independent Screenwriting Lab Fellow and a graduate of NBC's Writers on the Verge program as a comedy writer. Prior to, she worked as a film distribution executive and an impact producer, and is the author of six books, including The Message: 100 Life Lessons from Hip-Hop's Greatest Songs. Felicia holds an M.A. in writing from Emerson College and runs The Create Daily, a resource for underrepresented storytellers that she founded in 2012.
MEET MODERATOR/JOURNALIST NIEMA JORDAN
Niema Jordan is a storyteller, filmmaker, and podcaster from Oakland, Calif.
Her byline has appeared in ESSENCE, EBONY, The Crisis Magazine, and on KQED, Shondaland.com, Glamour.com. In 2016, Jordan won the Spike Lee Student Filmmaker award for her documentary, Oasis. Her production credits include The Chosen Life (associate producer), Fatherless (associate producer), Bobby Kennedy for President (researcher), and Unadopted (impact producer).
She is currently a story producer on an untitled mental health documentary series slated for a 2021 release and the host of the podcast, Fertility, Mothering, and Other Things.
Going Virtual
Reel Stories transitioned 100% online starting in March. We have since hosted dozens of online opportunities: scriptwriting, editing, documentary filmmaking, animation, professional panel discussions, after school programs, summer camps and Instagram Live interviews with working professionals in the creative arts industry. We have discovered since going virtual that our youth are craving community now more than ever - and we are working to hold space for their creative needs, while seamlessly staying true to our mission of training the next generation of female-identifying and non-binary filmmakers.
