Event description

Description

The panel discussion will focus on the evolution of Toronto streetwear culture and the significance that it has on the community. The conversation will also tie in other non-fashion related upsprings that have played a part in developing Toronto streetwear culture, such as cannabis.

Matthew Williams

Matthew Williams is the founder of 1017 ALYX 9SM, one of the more recent brands to debut at Paris Fashion Week, and one whose enormous hype is totally justified.

Williams was born in Chicago, raised in Pismo Beach, California, and now lives in Ferrara, Italy (where ALYX’s production takes place). His aesthetic captures the zeitgeist, with 1017 ALYX 9SM referencing security through Matthew Williams’ design innovations and treading a line between luxe streetwear, high fashion, and fetish-esque leatherwear with aplomb.

STÜSSY

In the late ’80s and early ’90s, a brand was born from the Southern California surf scene and swept through the clothing landscape to redefine the look and ideology of casual- wear. That brand was Stüssy, a label that grew organically from youth movements and inadvertently revolutionized the clothing business.
