Event description

Description

The Broadcasting Board of Governors is one of America's key public diplomacy tools, with 6 networks broadcasting in 100 countries and 61 languages to an audience of over 226 million people. Some of these networks are well-known, like Voice of America or Radio Free Europe. Our broadcaster in parts of the Middle East is Al Hurra TV and Radio Sawa, which broadcast out of the studios of Middle East Broadcasting Networks in Springfield, Virginia.

Join us as we talk with Ambassador Alberto Fernandez, the current director of Middle East Broadcasting Networks, as he talks about the work of the broadcaster and its effect on their audience.

Ambassador Fernandez joined the Department of State in 1983, working at the US Embassies in Nicaragua, Kuwait, Syria, Guatamala, Jordan, Afghanistan and Sudan before being named Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea in 2009. Much of his professional focus was on both the Middle East as well as public affairs and public diplomacy.
