ABOUT THE CONCERT:

In partnership with the Portland Chamber Orchestra, Alvord Hot Springs, and the Paul and Tonya Davis Family, Hunter Noack performs live on a nine-foot Steinway concert grand piano on the dry lakebed near Alvord Hot Springs. The performance will take place approximately 200 meters from the Alvord Hot Springs access road. If you are coming for the concert only, please meet at the Alvord Hot Springs by 5:30pm Saturday, September 23.

  • DINNER POST-CONCERT: Chef Jin Soo Yang, Executive Chef of Bamboo Sushi, will prepare a post-concert family style dinner for a limited number of guests. $30pp. Separate registration is required. CLICK HERE to make your dinner reservations or to add yourself to the waiting list.

ABOUT THE CONCERT VENUE:

At 4000 elevation, the Alvord Desert is a dry lakebed that sits in the rainshadow of Steens Mountain. The nearest community (23 miles south) is Fields Oregon, pop. 86. The Paul and Tonya Davis family, are generously hosting the concert on the lakebed near the Alvord Hot Springs. The Hot Springs—owned and operated by the Davis family—will remain open to the public ($5 entrance fee) until 9pm. CLICK HERE to see updated weather forecast.

ABOUT CAMPING IN THE ALVORD DESERT:

A limited number of campsites at the Alvord Hot Springs have become available from Friday, 10am to Sunday 5pm. (9/22-9/24) To reserve one of these campsites ($50 per night), to add yourself to the waiting list, or for more information on the Alvord Hot Springs campsites, CLICK HERE.

You are also welcome to camp at no charge on the southern half of the lakebed, which is operated by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). There are no facilities. No registration required. There is a $5 access road to the lakebed. We ask that you respect the land by adhering to a Leave No trace policy on the Davis property and on BLM public land.

All-Wheel-Drive vehicles recommended. Parking at the hot springs is limited.

Absolutely NO FIRES are allowed in the Alvord Desert. Please plan accordingly. FIRE DANGER IS VERY REAL and we acknowledge this with the utmost seriousness. Fires, open-flame barbeques, and fireworks are strictly prohibited. Smoking is strictly prohibited except in specific areas. Help us keep the area safe!


ABOUT TRANSPORTATION / ACCESS ROAD / PARKING

4x4 vehicles recommended.

Alvord can be reached via the Fields-Denio Road (East Steens Road) from either the north (via Burns), or the south (via Fields). From the north, drive approximately 41 miles south on the dirt Fields-Denio Road from Highway 78. From the south, drive 23 miles north (12 miles paved) to reach the signed Alvord Hot Springs.

The nearest gas station is 23 miles south in Fields, Oregon. We recommend you fill your tank in Burns or in Fields. *There is no fuel on site.*

For those who plan to drive onto the lakebed, there are two access roads to the lakebed: One private access road at the Alvord Hot Springs and one public access road 4 miles south of the Alvord Hot Springs. We encourage you to use the public access road as the private access road costs $10 and will be closed Friday from 2pm-10pm and Saturday from 5am-11am and 3pm-8pm (may be subject to closure at other times due to filming). The public BLM access road is always open. 4x4 vehicle is required.

Parking at the hot springs is limited.

OUTSIDE FOOD & DRINK PERMITTED?

Yes. You may also purchase beer, ice, and snacks at the Alvord Hot Springs store.

ARE CHAIRS PROVIDED?

A limited number of chairs will be provided. First come, first served. We suggest bringing your own chairs or desert friendly blankets.

WEATHER?

The weather has taken a turn for cold cold cold – desert cold is predicted at high of 62 degrees and low of 31 degrees. Steens Mountain elevation is 9,733 feet and can bring in dramatic weather patterns quickly – please be prepared for those conditions. Check Weather Bug for Fields, Oregon, for weather updates.
