French philosopher François Laruelle argues that almost all philosophy—even anti-philosophical philosophy—imposes abstract structures on reality, producing a habit of thinking that is seemingly dialectical but in effect essentializing. In his proposition for non-philosophy, he imagines a radical rejection of these tendencies, insisting that thinking should remain grounded in lived, material conditions rather than in abstract conceptual systems.

“Material Philosophy: Thinking Through the Noise” will be moderated by Natasha Chuk and hosted at Magenta Plains (149 Canal Street) in conversation with Joseph Nechvatal’s show “Information Noise Saturation.”
