Event description

Description

Our Improvers level course is a fun and high-energy class intended for those with some previous improv or acting experience. We'll be learning some performance games that have more moving parts to them, learning about how games work, and rounding out scene work skills. The course will include guessing games, physical games, character work, space/object work, status, playing a relationship, adding information in different ways and layering all of the above to create dynamic scenes, games, and shows.

Improvisation is a fantastic tool for acting, comedy, and life, because it means saying, "yes!" and supporting your team members to create a show. You'll surprise yourself with the things you come up with, and be amazed at how comfortable you start to feel being silly on stage. You'll meet some of the most positive and lovely people in the world at improv classes as well, and hopefully make some very good new friends.

These classes are suitable for just about everybody, no matter your background. The venue is wheelchair accessible*, and most levels of physical fitness and ability can easily be accommodated. You'll also need good basic English skills, but please don't be worried if it's your second language.

*Venue has flat access, but the loos are rather small- email your specific requirements and we'll provide more detail. We'd love to have you!

Diversity Scholarships:

Improvable are pleased to announce a new diversity scholarship program, designed to make sure everybody who wants to play has a chance to. There are no set criteria for who can apply; if you want to come to a class but would struggle to pay for it, you are welcome to fill out an application form. We will do our very best to find a place or some help for all who need, and you are in no way obliged to disclose any sensitive personal information in your application. More information can be found here: https://improvable.org/diversity-scholarship/

About your teacher:

Karolina was born in Austria as a daughter of Polish immigrants. She studied communication and theatre history and for several years Karolina worked as a main editor for a regional newspaper back in Austria. Her passion for theatre and her longing to express herself more creatively led her to join a theatre company in Vienna where she gained more experience on stage and was eventually playing leading roles.

In late 2013 she became a member of Improvable and performs regularly with them, playing fast-paced short form games and scenes based on the audience suggestions. The group is constantly evolving and has also introduced long-form improvisation and more structured narratives into their shows. Besides her regular work with Improvable the 36-year old actress also likes to experiment with different genres and is currently cast member of Carmen, an improvised gender-flipped Film Noir that is going to the Edinburgh Fringe this year.

Karolina works mainly as an actor and improvisation coach. In her improvisation workshops and courses she focuses on the individual needs of her students and takes a gentle and fun approach to promote spontaneity and creativity within the group.

“Improvisation has made me a stronger and more confident human being. It helps to develop better social skills and stay present. It is a perfect instrument to help us break thought patterns that don’t serve us and embrace our unique selves without judgement.”
