Event description
This workshop will share ways teachers can help students (gr. 3+) improve their early drafts of writing in thoughtful and substantive ways.

About this Event

Many students think revision means copying an early draft in neater handwriting or simply checking for misspellings, but it involves making substantive decisions about a draft. This workshop will help teachers help students after they've written a first or second draft.

  • What should students revise and what revision techniques can we teach them?
  • What kinds of feedback are helpful to student authors (i.e. oral, written or digital)?
  • What is writer's craft and how can students' understanding of it become a tool they can use as authors?
  • How can we recognize growth in student writing?
  • How can strong student writing be used as a model for other student authors?
