Despite being one of the most developed nations in the world, the U.S. maternal mortality rate for women of color continues to rise.

Sonia Hassan, M.D., Wayne State University’s associate vice president for the Office of Women’s Health, will share her department's latest breakthrough research during Wayne State’s inaugural Capital Series event: Improving Health Outcomes for Minority Women and Their Children.

The congressional briefing is hosted by Wayne State University in conjunction with Rep. Brenda Lawrence and Rep. Rashida Tlaib. Special guest presenters include Stacey D. Stewart, president and CEO of the March of Dimes and member of the board of directors for the Women’s Congressional Policy Institute. The event will be moderated by James Williams, Jr., Wayne State’s director of Federal Affairs.

Other key members and representatives from relevant stakeholder communities have also been invited to attend. The briefing is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
