About this Event

Description:

Instructors and students come from diverse backgrounds and cultures. It is often easy to neglect cultural diversity in the classroom, missing an opportunity for instructors to facilitate learning for a wide variety of students. In this workshop participants will identify the challenges associated with teaching international students as well as students with culturally different backgrounds in both STEM and humanities. After the workshop, participants will be equipped with strategies to incorporate different cultural frameworks in their lectures, discussion sections, and assignments. We will also develop ways to promote participation for students from different cultures. We hope this will help participants enhance the learning experience of their students.

Workshop Facilitators:

Maïté Marciano is a PhD candidate in Comparative Literary Studies. She has TA-ed several classes in literature and critical theory and led workshops at the New TA Conference. She also taught beginners French as a solo instructor.

Youn Jue (Eunice) Bae is a PhD candidate in the Chemistry department from Seoul, South Korea and current Graduate Teaching Fellow. She has TA-ed general and physical chemistry classes and led workshops for new TAs in the past.
