Event description

Description

Presenter(s): Garrett Podgorski

With House Bill 3139 requiring districts to address chronic absenteeism as well as the implications student attendance has on growth, ensuring our students are in the classroom is more important than ever. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of chronic absenteeism, its impact on learning, and the key principles involved in improving student attendance. While chronic absenteeism affects both social-emotional and academic development, there are certain mitigating practices schools and districts can employ to engage or re-engage students that may have difficulty coming to school with or without valid cause. Furthermore, participants will take part in a root cause analysis, customized to their own unique situations and complete a priority mapping exercise designed to focus their intervention efforts moving forward. Understanding the role Social Emotional Learning, plays in ensuring our students are in school can help support your district and stakeholders in ensuring.
