About this Event

This workshop takes place in one afternoon, Saturday Nov 2nd, 1pm-4pm.

Prerequisites: some improv experience. Email info@rvacomedy.com with questions.

Don't know who Dorothy Parker is? Well, you should! Get to know the 20th century's first female comedy writer who exposed the pettiness and prowess of 1920's high society. We will study the author's tropes and style and learn to improvise a long-form vignette show, showcasing 1920's slang, suiters, and social constructs. Dorothy Parker was brilliant at creating nuanced relationships in her short stories, so this is a great workshop if you want to work on strengthening relationship building! Plus, we get to do it with that good ole 1920's pizazz.

About the Instructor:

Mallie McCown was introduced to theatrical improv at Chicago’s Piven Theatre at an early age. She then moved to Los Angeles where she studied with UCB, Second City; Hollywood, Comedy Sportz LA, and Impro Theatre. McCown was also a professional sketch comedy writer for Parallel Entertainment during her time in LA and recently returned from the UK where she received her Masters’ from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Shakespearean Text and Performance. She also recently performed with Shakespeare’s Globe in London before returning to the States.
