Improv Foundation is our fun exploration to the joys and thrills of improvisation and the BATS-style of improvised theatre. Students learn and build on improv concepts, practice new skills, and perform in a safe, friendly atmosphere. Through games and exercises, you'll play, explore, and experiment with creating characters and scenes, virtually guided by our seasoned coach Basel Al Naffouri. Improv Foundation is all about unleashing your innate skill. Are you human? Then you have all the experience necessary to excel! The course will cater both to total beginners and people who have taken an improv introductory course!
Due to very limited seats, we operate on first pay first serve basis.
What is improv?
Improvisation is the art of creating theater without a script. Improvisors create stories, theatrical scenes and songs without any planning ahead of time. They don’t know what lines/lyrics they will say, what characters they will play, or what stories they will tell. Anything could happen! They do this by engaging their imagination and creativity, and focusing on collaboration and clear communication.
Why should I take this course?
Improvised acting is a challenging and immensely rewarding artform. It is the epitome of self-expression: improvisors get to choose what characters to play, what lines to speak and what stories to tell, all in the moment. They have to become writers, actors and directors at the same time. It also allows improvisors to play a variety of characters (different ages, genders, and nationalities), genres, situations, and time periods. At the same time, they must learn to pay very close attention to their partners and fellow actors. Improv demands a high level of collaboration and teamwork, which we find can take individuals to far more exciting places than they’d ever go on their own!
In addition, improv has a lot of practical application for personal and professional aspects of life. Intangible skills like team building, communication, positivity, commitment, supporting others, thinking on your feet and creativity are essential in a professional (as well as personal) environments, but at the same time they are hard to teach.
The same tools that improvisers use to create scenes can inspire professionals to better workplace performance. Through concepts such as “yes, and” (the idea of saying 'yes' to every offer presented and adding to it), groups can take an idea and creatively build on it step by step.
Finally, and most importantly: It’s Fun!
