Event description

Description

Participants will be presented with data and research that will facilitate conversation specific to their experiences in the workplace and community. The information provided in this training will aid participants in increasing their awareness of implicit bias and its impact on decision making. Participants will also develop a working definition of "culture" and engage in activities to aid them in learning the cultures of others participating in the training. The desired outcome of this training is that participants will be made aware of implicit bias, what culture is and it's impact on an individual's decisions, and will use the skills presented in the trainings to minimize the impact and influence of bias on their decisions.

Objectives:

  • Understand data that supports the realization of dis-proportionality and disparities among racial groups.
  • Understand what is meant by implicit bias and how bias affects attitudes, understanding, and decisions.
  • Apply skills that will aid in naturalizing the impact of bias upon decision making.
Understand best practice for addressing individual bias.
  • Apply a racial lens to the organizations policies and practices to address and remove the potential for bias.
  • Describe what is meant by culture and how it impacts behavior.
  • Understand the connection of culture to both the behavior of individuals, youth and families as well as the response of "system" personnel.
  • Understand how to recognize when they are at an intersection of culture and race.
  • Apply skiils to aide in minimizing the possibilities of cultural collisions occurring at cultural intersections.
