About this event

Imperial Intimacies: Opium and the Illustrated London News

Abstract TBA

Fariha Shaikh is Lecturer in Victorian Literature at the University of Birmingham. Her research focusses on the complex junctures in the nineteenth century between genre, form and globalisation. Her monograph Nineteenth-Century Settler Emigration in British Literature and Art (2019) explores the relationships between text and mobility in the context of nineteenth-century settler emigration. She is in the early stages of a new project on literature and the nineteenth-century opium wars.
