Event Details

The NYS Chapter of the American Trauma Society (ATS) is proud to announce the relaunch of the National Safety Council's NYS Teen Safe Driving Coalition.  We are looking forward to statewide collaborative efforts to prevent the number one killer of teens; motor vehicle crashes.  In celebration of the relaunch, the ATS will be hosting a brief goal setting meeting followed by an Impact Teen Drivers Train the Trainer (TTT) workshop. This TTT workshop will not only provide you with the resources to bring back an evidence-based teen safe driving program to your area, ATS will continue to offer support and train members in their regional areas to further our reach. Teen Safe Driving Coalition Meeting 11:00am-12:00pm followed by the TTT from 12:00pm-4:00pm.  Lunch will be provided.

Who Should Attend? Anyone who is an advocate for teen safe driving. This may include, but is not limited to, Injury Prevention Coordinators, Educators, Law Enforcement, First Responders, Health Professionals, Teens/Teen Organizations, Coaches, Parents/PTA, and Community Members.

About the Trainer: Impact Teen Drivers (ITD) provides evaluated and evidence-based programs, materials and campaigns to reach teens, parents, and community members about the dangers of reckless and distracted driving. Executive Director and Lead facilitator, Dr. Kelly Browning, will facilitate a four-hour comprehensive training to prepare attendees to use ITD programs and materials free in their local communities.

About the Training: "Train the Trainers" is an engaging workshop for participants to learn about the issue of distracted and reckless driving itself, and become empowered to address it in the most effective manner. This four-hour training conveys the most recent and cogent research concerning teen driving behaviors and attitudes, driving statistics, and Graduated Driver Licensing laws, and translates all the information into actionable solutions. Train the Trainers provides participants with evidence-based tools to deliver high-energy presentations focused on the dangers of reckless and distracted driving. Participants will become well-versed in the “What do You Consider Lethal?” program, and learn how to effectively communicate the essentials of safe driving to teens, parents, and members of their communities. Participants will receive informational handouts, guides, and templates for facilitating discussion and preparing presentations about teen safe driving for their own reference and to share with other educators, first responders, health professionals, or community members.
