What goes with a movie (besides social change)? Is it popcorn? Milk Duds maybe? Mike and Ike's? Nah! John Travolta knows. It's beer. We don't mean just, like, no paper cup either, we're talking about a GLASS of beer. And what better time of year than Oktoberfest to chat about film, media and social change over a cold one?
The third edition of #ImpactSocials falls admist this most European of traditions, so we're heading over to an Austro-Hungarian beer garden to join in. Radegast Hall & Biergarten in Williamsburg is one of NYC's best places for a brew, not to mention it hosts a killer annual Oktoberfest celebration with live music, pig roasts and mug holding competitions. Yeah you read that right, mug holding competitions.
Whether your issue is marijuana legalization like Travolta's, you're a food activist in the vein of Samuel L. Jackson or you want to advance the gay rights movement, we invite you to suit up in your lederhosen and share your particular passion with your fellow change-makers on October 3.
The organizing is on us; the drinks are not. Radegast boasts 100 European craft beers, a $13 food and beer pairing special from 5-8pm, and their Thursday Special of a free bratwurst with a litre of the daily special beer or $5 for a half-litre of the daily special beer. Beer isn't your thing? A selection of wine and cocktails are available, as well as 6 types of sausage and a full dinner menu. As always teetotalers are welcome. L train to Bedford station or the East River Ferry to the North 6th Street stop.
See you soon,
#ImpactSocials are monthly gatherings created to bring together outreach, engagement and innovation strategists; film and media makers; broadcasters and distributors; transmedia producers and digital gurus; scholars and educators; social justice activists and advocates; and, progressive cultural organizers.
Held on the first Thursday of every month, the goal is to help us create connections across disciplines, spark collaborations, seed ideas and inspire each other's creativity -- and just maybe have a little fun while doing it.
Indulge your social media addiction at Oktoberfest with the hashtag #impactsocials.
