This three-part training series facilitated by Harambe Social Services focuses on barriers to African American victims of crime, particularly domestic violence and sexual violence and designed for victim service providers. Each five-hour training sessions will explore the unique barriers that African American/Black victims may encounter that impact their ability to seek services and follow through. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend all three trainings, but each session can stand alone and will be offered at different locations at different times.

THE IMPACT OF OPPRESSION ON AFRICAN AMERICAN VICTIMS-Part 1 of a series of 3 FREE workshops.

Participants can explore and reflect on their personal notions of “others” and strengthen their capacity as victim advocates to provide more culturally sensitive services that recognizes the unique needs of Black/African American victims. Participants will review the concept of racial micro-aggressions and practice alternative behaviors and language to create a more sensitive environment. The workshop will also give participants an opportunity to discuss their agency’s current policies and practices that may create barriers to Black/African American victims receiving services and consider possible solutions.
