Welcome to Return on Change's 2nd Impact Investor Night on Thursday, December 5th!  

This past September we successfully launched our 1st Impact Investor Night and thanks to all the impact investors and entrepreneurs who came out to support social innovation & impact investing! Here are some of the things that happened:

  • Over 100 attendees came and filled the room with great energy & conversations
  • 5 high-impact startups pitched and 2 of those startups are now live on our website
  • Our guest speaker, John Liu, shared his experience with working in impact investing on the public side

OpenSchool ePortfoliois a student-centered assessment tool that allows teachers to go beyond narrow multiple-choice assessments to give a more authentic picture of a student’s actual learning. 



Fireside Chat with:

Ash Kaluarachchi works with early-stage edtech startups to validate business models, secure capital, and reach customers. Primarily, he focuses on building partnerships with strategic partners and industry professionals to create a support structure for startup teams. He's also advised senior executives and administrators, including those at educational institutions, on their operations, procurement, and technology strategy, and has assisted US-based education publishers in entering international markets, including China.

 

 

 

 

John Lee is a software engineer with a background in artificial intelligence and data mining, and is the technical half of School Yourself's founding team. After spending 4 years at Google working on natural language question answering, he teamed up with the best teacher he knew to start a company with the goal of reinventing educational content from the ground up.

 

 

 

Preeti Birla has focused her career on launching and contributing to projects that increase access to education through technology. She began her career at Sesame Street where she launched Sesame Street India and worked on other international and domestic ventures to increase Sesame Street's reach. Currently, Preeti is working with the Office of Innovation at the NYC Department of Education where she's been helping startups build bridges with educators at NYC schools.  

 

 

 

 

Andrew Cohen is the CEO of Brainscape, a web and mobile education platform that teaches subjects as diverse as languages, medicine, and bartending using an adaptive learning algorithm. They are currently in the process of expanding our network of world-class educational partners to broaden the range of content that we offer.



 

 

 

Priya Garg is the Interim Managing Director at Socratic Labs, an educational technology start-up accelerator program embracing lean start-up practices and a community for education innovators.
