Event description

This training will explore the intersection of immigration and public benefits. This training will focus on what is true now but will briefly discuss the proposed rule on public charge. We will strive to:

  1. Build a basic understanding of the potential impact using public benefits could have on an immigrant’s current or future immigration status.

  2. Help enrollment assisters identify scenarios when individuals or families enrolling or un-enrolling in public benefits should get legal advice before making a change.

  3. Help enrollment assisters connect concerned individuals and families with legal resources to get answers to their questions.

This training is a collaboration of End Domestic Abuse of Wisconsin, Legal Action of Wisconsin, Covering Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Enrollment Network and the Wisconsin Primary Health Care Association. Presenters include: Megan L. Sprecher, Immigration and Poverty Law Attorney at End Domestic Abuse of Wisconsin; Caroline B. Gómez-Tom, Navigator Program Manager at Covering Wisconsin; Mariah Hennen, Farmworker Project Outreach Paralegal at Legal Action of Wisconsin; and Shannon Drake-Buhr, Patient Engagement Coordinator at the Wisconsin Primary Health Care Association.
