Description

“Symphony in Space”

J.S. Bach/Stokowski – Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor, BWV 582
Mason Bates – Mothership
Gustav Holst – The Planets, Op. 32

2019 marks the 50th anniversary of mankind’s first steps on the lunar surface by the crew of Apollo 11. What better way to celebrate this historic event than with a concert that is truly out of this world. The Immaculata Symphony will perform Holst’s spectacular symphonic suite “The Planets.” The music in each of the seven movements embodies the astrological and mystical qualities of a different planet. From the ominous, relentless march of “Mars, the Bringer of War” to the robust festivities of “Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity,” this music has thrilled audiences ever since its spectacular debut one hundred years ago.
