Event description

"IMfest (short for The Immigrant Arts Festival) is an entertainment showcase that brings together emerging immigrant artists from all over the world currently working in the U.S. to tell our stories in a community that understands and supports us. We will be screening a series of shorts made by up-and-coming filmmakers, followed by a conversation with established immigrant talent to talk about their journey.

"Wreck It Ra"

Directed by Varun Chopra

A preteen’s zany perspective of growing up awkward and ethnically different in suburban America.

"Nuestro Pais"

Directed by Mayra Flores

A short experimental animated documentary about immigrant families living in the U.S. told through an intimate lens.

"The Fob & I"

Directed by Meenakshi Ramamurthy

A trip for dosas takes a turn when Sita is forced to confront her feelings about immigrants.

Directed by Suzanne Andrews Correa

An undocumented Turkish pedicab driver unwittingly draws police attention, endangering his brother, his community, and himself.

Directed by Lorena Lourenco

Joy explores the distresses of being an immigrant woman of color in Trump's America, juxtaposed against the social courteousness one always feels complied to present.

"First Generation"

Directed by Jeannie Nguyen

First Generation explores the boundaries of self-expression and what it is like growing up in America as a first generation Asian American in the late 90's. We follow a young Asian American protagonist, My-Linh, through her challenges and realization of acceptance and embracing her Asian features.

When Lauren and Bill’s teen daughter says she’s going to a dance with her classmate Ryan, they question their preconceived notions of her sexuality and their openness as parents.

Followed by Q&A with
