Event description
A weekend together for spiritual growth, community envisioning, and building friendship, amongst the beautiful Sonoma redwoods.

About this Event

Join us for the Fourth Annual Haven Community Retreat!

We will be returning once again to St. Dorothy's Rest in Sonoma (pictured above) where we have enjoyed a wonderful time together for the last two years. This year, we will be joined by Leah's mentor and guest speaker Adey Wassink of Sanctuary Church in Iowa City. Our theme for this year is "Imagining Home" as we imagine together the Spiritual Home Haven is becoming. Whether you're new to Haven or have been around awhile, you are encouraged to join us. We hope that this year's retreat will be an opportunity to build and deepen relationships, share some spiritual experiences, have fun together, and in all of it, clarify our vision of the home we're building at Haven.

The Retreat will include:

  • teachings by Pastor Adey Wassink
  • musical worship
  • envisioning of Haven together
  • fun activities for kids
  • outdoor recreation: hiking, swimming in the pool, outdoor sports and games, campfires
  • late night conversations and hangouts by the fire place (with board games, beer, wine, and snacks, etc.)
  • the return of the Haven Talent Show (Complete with access to the amazing St. Dorothy's Rest Costume Loft!!)
  • togetherness

Logistical Details:

Retreat Location: St Dorothy's Rest, Camp Meeker, CA (in Sonoma, about 90 minutes or so from Berkeley)

Website: stdorothysrest.org

Date and Time: The retreat will run from Friday evening until 11am on Sunday. Participants are welcome to arrive as early as 3pm for settling in and recreation but folks can also come later as they are able. Dinner is not provided for our group Friday evening; we encourage you to eat before you arrive, bring your own food with you, or head into one of the restauraunts in nearby Occidental once you've gotten settled. A large group gathering will take place starting at 7:30pm that evening, and our hope is that most will be able to join us by then. On Sunday, after the retreat, some folks may also choose to grab lunch together on the drive home (but we will not be heading to the beach this year at that time).

Accomodations: Accomodations are mostly well-maintained semi-private rooms (2 twin beds per room), along with dormitory space as needed for families, primarily in two large boarding houses. There are multiple shared living spaces for hanging out together, hopefully allowing for lots of connection, even outside of our formal meeting times. See images of the accomodations here. (We will be in the Main House and the Miriam House primarily.) Once registrations are in, Leah will work with you to arrange an optimal rooming situation.

Food: Food will be served in the main house and is prepared fresh. Vegetarian meals are available. Other special dietary needs (allergies, gluten-free) may require you to bring your own food. Folks are also encouraged to bring snacks and beverages to share.

Cost: All costs reflected below include two nights of accomodation and four meals (Breakfast Saturday through Breakfast Sunday). If you cannot attend the entire retreat, or cannot eat the provided meals due to food sensitivities, a pro-rated registration is possible. To request a pro-rate, email Leah, let her know how much of the retreat you can attend, and she will communicate your rate.

Adult (ages 13 and up): $200/adult for the weekend. Spot held with $50 deposit. As the retreat approaches, you will be invoiced for the balance to be paid by the retreat.

Child (age 0-3): Free. Please register for these children so we can save their spots.

Child (age 4-12): $90/child for the weekend. Spot held with $20 deposit. You will be invoiced for the balance to be paid by the retreat.

Financial Assistance: It is our goal that no-one will miss out on the experience of the Haven Retreat because of inability to pay. If you are in need of any financial assistance in order to attend, contact Leah to discuss scholarship availabilty.

We're grateful for any gifts you can make to the Haven Retreat Scholarship Fund.
