Event description

Description

Is Illinois Ready for a Long-Term Power Outage?

The National Emergency Management Association (NEMA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) have been involved in a cooperative effort developing a tabletop exercise (TTX) toolkit for state emergency management agencies and applicable partners to use to test and evaluate their capabilities to respond to and recover from a long-term power outage. As part of this effort, NEMA has invited Illinois to participate in a pilot program utilizing the newly developed toolkits in an Illinois-specific exercise.

Please mark your calendars for August 3, 2017 and plan to join us as we explore Illinois’ path to energy resilience

Exercise Topics:

  • Public and private sector integration.
  • Energy Sector and critical infrastructure interdependencies.
  • Resources and capabilities related to restoration following a widespread power outage.
  • Human and societal impacts of a long-term power outage.
  • Decision-making for power restoration and fuel allocation priorities.
