Building Resilience of Refugee and Immigrant Children and Families

Speaker: Claire Coyne, Ph.D. from Lurie Children's Hospital Center for Childhood Resilience

This seminar will focus on how the current sociopolical climate has affected marginalized youth, in particular refugee and immigrant youth and their families. Participants will learn what to say and do to instill hope, decrease distress, and increase a sense of control over their futures and environments. Additionally, the training will include how to identify signs of distress in children and include information on the impact of trauma on professionals who work with youth and families exposed to stress and trauma. Activiites focus on assesing compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue, and strengthening individual sefl-care strategies.
