IIYT is pleased to offer this FIRST TIME Seminar Series to everyone interested in Yoga Therapy! No yoga experience required.

About this event

Attendees of all levels are welcome to participate!

All seminars are led by IIYT Faculty as Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Providers.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • IIYT Yoga Therapy Seminars are facilitated by IIYT Faculty Seminar Leaders registered with Yoga Alliance as Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Presenters (YACEP).
  • Each of the IIYT Yoga Therapy Seminars consist of three contact hours and are Yoga Alliance compliant.
  • IIYT Yoga Therapy Seminars are conducted via ZOOM - all times are in the Eastern Time Zone.
  • Proof of attendance will be electronically provided to attendees at the conclusion of the 3-hour seminar.

1. June 26th, 8:00-11:00am: Yoga and fascia: layers of the mind-body connection. Embryological development, anatomy and physiology of fascia, fascia-stimulating and fascia-releasing techniques. With Sonia Sorrenti, MSc, CIAYT, ERYT500, YACEP

2. July 31st, 8:00-11:00am: Principles and practices of meditation. Learn about the different kind of meditation and how to guide yourself or your students through sessions of moving meditation, stillness, and relaxation. With Sonia Sorrenti, MSc, CIAYT, ERYT500, YACEP

3. August 28th, 8:00-11:00am: Spiritual warrior awareness practice (SWAP). A self-compassion practice for survivors and caregivers. Reflections on how breathing and meditation can be used to find stability through difficult times in the face of challenges. With Sonia Sorrenti, MSc, CIAYT, ERYT500, YACEP

4. September 4th, 1:00-4:00pm: Treatment of Bulimia Nervosa with Yoga Therapy. A conversation about yoga therapy’s adaptability, as seen through the lens of treating bulimia and other eating disorders, body dysmorphia, generalized anxiety, and addictive behaviors. 5. September 18th, 1:00-4:00pm: Yoga Beyond the Mat - Part One. Offering practices to increase agency through clinical applications of accessible yoga, based on establishing homeostasis to promote greater health. With Amy Uniacke, BA, CIAYT, RYT500, ERYT200, YACEP

6. September 25th, 1:00-4:00pm: Yoga Therapy to strengthen the brain and lead to healthy aging. Learn how yoga therapy, meditation and healthy eating can strengthen mind and memory and prevent cognitive decline. With Donna Raphael, MPA, CIAYT, RYT500, YACEP

7. December 4th, 1:00-4:00pm: Yoga Beyond the Mat - Part Two. A deeper look into the neuroanatomy of homeostasis and its role in the perception of pain. More practice and inquiry into the role of awareness and agency. With Amy Uniacke, BA, CIAYT, RYT500, ERYT200, YACEP

8. December 18th, 1:00-4:00pm: Bedside Yoga Therapy. We will explore bedside yoga therapy techniques that have been shown to help manage pain and anxiety for people who are pre and post-surgery. With Lisa Phelps, CIAYT, ERYT500, PRYT, YACEP

9. January 8th, 8:00-11:00am. The spine of yoga: biomechanics of a safe practice. Anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal system. Workshop on key yoga poses and adjustments to support a healthy back. With Sonia Sorrenti, MSc, CIAYT, ERYT500, YACEP

10. January 8th, 1:00-4:00pm. Practicing yoga through the koshas. Explore yoga therapy’s complete physiological and ethical scope of practice through the koshas; embodiment, breathing, mental and emotional attitudes, intellect, and self-fulfillment. 11. January 29th, 8:00-11:00am. Resilient yoga: physiology and management of stress and trauma. In-depth study on the autonomic nervous and the poly-vagal theory. Managing symptoms of anxiety and depression through up-regulating and down-regulating practices. With Sonia Sorrenti, MSc, CIAYT, ERYT500, YACEP

12. January 29th, 1:00-4:00pm. Yoga and the management of addictive behaviors. Learn about physiological, philosophical, and experiential aspects of yoga that support the management of addictive and polysubstance abuse behaviors from a therapeutic lens. 13. January 29th, 6:00-9:00pm. Yoga therapy for small groups: cardiac rehab. Using case studies, role playing and practice simulations for small group dynamics attendees will receive instruction relating to small group dynamics, ethical management, opportunities, and challenges within the cardiac care environment.
