Putting the Business in Driver's Seat -

Creating Business Rules that Speak to Business

Business analysts and subject matter experts need the ability to express business rules in natural language. Currently, business rules are embedded in software logic and database stored procedures, written by programmers, using programming languages. The vocabulary and practices around business rules appear to be driven by vendors of commercial business rules engines, who are focused on efficient rule implementation rather than making business rules accessible to the business.

This presentation will discuss a tried and tested approach which puts the business back in the driver’s seat for articulating and managing their business rules. Here, you will learn:

• How to state business rules clearly and unambiguously in natural language

• How true business rules differ from process and workflow rules, and how they are related.

• How business rules lead to requirements.

• How to avoid multiple “almost similar” clones of the same rule.

Key Point: Putting Business in Charge of Business Rules

He has supported software development projects in multiple industries including finance, insurance, hospitality, healthcare, transportation, e-commerce, and real estate.
