Join us at the Ignite My Future In School Day of Discovery for a customized in-person professional development experience brought to you by leaders at the forefront of computational thinking. Our Day of Discovery is designed to connect you with your fellow educators and will equip participants with the tools they need to start incorporating the skills associated with computational thinking into classroom learning activities.

The content covered during this day of learning is focused on middle grades 6-8

9:00 am Opening Remarks & Agenda Review

9:10 am Introduce Keynote Speaker

  • Keynote: Computational Thinking Alive in My Classroom

9:35 am Processing and Interacting with a Six-Word Story

9:50 am Dive into Ignite My Future Site

10:00 am BREAK

10:15 am Break Out Sessions – Mixed Content Areas

  • Five Groups of Mixed Grade Levels and Mixed Content Areas – Multiple DE Presenters
  • Participants will break into five (5) working groups to experience an immersive, computational thinking learning activity modeled in a transdisciplinary manner. Participants will join an experienced teacher conducting a learning activity that engages all content areas to solve a real-world problem. Teachers will also have time to use and explore the resources on the Ignite My Future site and see the connections to the Discovery Streaming Plus resources.

11:30 pm SOS Strategy, Building Community, and Action Planning

  • Participants will reflect on their learning and process their understanding with the use of a DE SOS Strategy
  • Beginning to Build Community
  • Introduce Action Planning Protocol

12:00 pm LUNCH

1:10 pm Model Lessons – Working in Subject Area Teams

  • Groups of Subject Area Teams – Multiple DE Presenters
  • Subject area teams will divide into groups to engage in a model lesson learning experience to see and feel computational thinking at work in each of the four subject areas: math, science, social studies, and electives. Teachers will work in small, subject area groups to explore, test, learn, engage, and ask questions from a Discovery Professional Development expert. Action planning protocols will be used to record thoughts, reflections, and initial action steps to try one computational thinking learning activity.
