Event Details

Ignite Chiloquin is a weeklong service immersion experience for current middle school students to participate in a transformative, unforgettable journey of service, justice, love, and compassion. Joining together with other young people from across the western United States, youth do repair work on homes and community centers on Native American tribal land. Youth discover the Christian call to service while exploring issues of justice, accompaniment, and partnership.

Venue Information

The Klamath Tribes do not have any land, but their members primarily live in the small town of Chiloquin, 30 miles north of the city of Klamath Falls. The Klamath Tribes include Klamath, Modoc, and Yahooskin. We will be working in the community and for tribal members. We are housed at the Chiloquin Junior-Senior High School, which includes a large gymnasium and shower facilities, and eat our meals at the Chiloquin United Methodist Church a short walk away.

Sierra Service Project

No stranger to the Christian youth service movement, SSP is an outstanding organization dedicated to building homes and strengthening faith through service to others. An interdenominational organization, SSP is supported by hundreds of churches and groups across the western United States, serving countless individuals and communities since its formation in the 1970's. SSP counselors and staff are highly trained, exceptional people who place a premium on safety, learning, and Christian faith formation.

Financial Details

Thanks to the generosity of our FCCPA community, we have been able to reduce the cost of summer Ignite experiences for 2014. The Ignite SSP participation fee is $700, of which $350 is due as a deposit at the time of registration. Fees are all-inclusive and reflect the following:

  • Sierra Service Project program fees, including staff and materials
  • Transportation to, from, and around our service location
  • All meals, including sumptuous travel food to and from our service location
  • An Engage journal for first-time participants (or those who have misplaced their journals)
  • An Ignite cinchpack
  • An Ignite t-shirt
  • A SSP t-shirt
  • FCCPA chaperones at a 1:5 ratio

Deposit Policy: Deposits secure a spot on the Ignite trip. No spot is guaranteed without payment of the deposit. Deposits are refundable for any reason until February 28, 2014. Deposits, minus a $100 administration fee, are refundable until April 30, 2014. After that date, the deposit will be forfeited.

Fundraising Policy: At all times, the total balance of the participation fee is assessed to students. It is the intent that, through active fundraising, the registration deposit is the only out-of-pocket cost for participants. In order to create an environment that is affirming and empowering of our young people, as well as one that recognizes the vast extremes of wealth in our immediate community, fundraising is conducted as a collective effort. All participants are expected to fully and actively participate in fundraising activities, giving them a sense of ownership and pride in the important prep work for their service experience. Annually in the spring, two internal church group fundraising projects and one external group fundraising project will be held to complete the service trip budget. Following completion of the fundraising projects, any remaining balance to be raised will be divided equally among trip participants and assessed as the final participation fee. Any excess fundraising monies carry forward to future Engage programs.

Multiple Sibling Policy: Given the nature of our program budget and our effort to maximize subsidies across all participants, we are unable to offer regular discounts for multiple siblings participating in Engage programs. In cases of financial need, please contact Rev. Daniel Ross-Jones confidentially; no one is turned away from Engage programming due to financial need.

Group Size

We must place a deposit on our group size with Sierra Service Project by November of the preceding year to guarantee our spot for the following summer. We are planning on a group size of 10 youth participants for 2014. We may be able to secure more participation slots, so once confirmed participants have registered, we maintain a first-come, first-serve waiting list for those who were unable to confirm their participation earlier.
