Event Details

Ignite Arizona is a weeklong service immersion experience for current high school students to participate in a transformative, unforgettable journey of service, justice, love, and compassion. Working in hands-on construction projects on the Navajo Nation with evening programming exploring the issues facing Native American peoples, Ignite Arizona provides youth with the venue to discover the Christian call to service at its intersection with issues of justice, accompaniment, and partnership.

Venue Information

We will be housed in dorms (called hogans) at Dine College, the first tribal college established. Sleeping rooms of 5-7 persons open up onto a common hanging out space. Bathrooms with showers are attached. You will be responsible for bringing a sleeping bag, pillow, linens and toiletries, etc.

Youth will be certified for 25 hours of community service, useful for school, scouts, etc. Please bring your paperwork to Rev. Dr. Eileen Altman before the trip begins.

Financial Details

The Ignite Arizona participation fee is $1,000, of which $500 is due as a deposit at the time of registration. Fees are all-inclusive and reflect the following:

  • Program fees, including supplies and materials
  • Air transportation to and from Albuquerque, New Mexico, as well as rental vans and ground transportation
  • Meals and accommodations
  • An Engage journal for first-time participants (or those who have misplaced their journals)
  • An Ignite cinchpack
  • An Ignite t-shirt
  • An SSP t-shirt
  • FCCPA chaperones at a 1:5 ratio or better

Deposit Policy: Deposits secure a spot on the Ignite trip. No spot is guaranteed without payment of the deposit. Deposits are refundable for any reason until February 15, 2016. Deposits, minus a $100 administration fee, are refundable until April 30, 2016. After that date, the deposit will be forfeited.

Financial Need: Thanks to the generosity of current and past generations of FCCPA members and friends, scholarship money is available. It is our intent that no one is ever turned away from FCCPA programs due to financial obstacles. Partial and full scholarships are available by speaking confidentially with Rev. Dr. Eileen Altman.

Fundraising Policy: At all times, the total balance of the participation fee is assessed to participants. It is the intent that, through active fundraising, the registration deposit is the only required out-of-pocket cost for participants. In order to create an environment that is affirming and empowering of our young people, as well as one that recognizes the vast extremes of wealth in our immediate community, fundraising is conducted as a collective effort. All participants are expected to fully and actively participate in fundraising activities, giving them a sense of ownership and pride in the important prep work for their service experience. Annually in the spring, two internal church group fundraising projects and one external group fundraising project will be held to complete the service trip budget. Following completion of the fundraising projects, any remaining balance to be raised will be divided equally among trip participants and assessed as the final participation fee. Any excess fundraising monies carry forward to future Engage programs.

Multiple Sibling Policy: Given the nature of our program budget and our effort to maximize subsidies across all participants, we are unable to offer regular discounts for multiple siblings participating in Engage programs. In cases of financial need, please contact Rev. Dr. Eileen Altman confidentially; no one is turned away from Engage programming due to financial need.

Group Size

Given past experience over the last few years, we are planning for up to 10 youth participants for Ignite Arizona. We may be able to accommodate a larger group, depending upon chaperone recruitment and Sierra Service Project availability. After confirmed registrations have reached capacity, we will operate a wait list on a first-come, first-serve basis.
