Event description

Description

Over the past 265 years since King's Chapel's stone chapel was built, the church has in many ways become a church of memorials. Nearly 40 memorial plaques, monuments, and busts adorn the sanctuary -- of the 52 names, 82% are those of white men. These memorials tell us much more than simply about the person described in marble -- we learn about the people who erected it and their values, about the time they lived in, and how they wanted future generations to remember their times and their loved ones. This special guided tour will read beyond the literal writing on the walls to explore not only the visible stories, but also the stories hidden or silenced throughout the church's history. Join us in digging deeper into the church's history, critically exploring the memorials and reconsidering what stories they share.
