Event description

Description

This session, led by Carolyn Kagan, will explore the pros and cons for a (Universal) Basic Income as a part of a Viable Economy. Basic Income is claimed to address issues of social inequality, the future of work and of democracy. There are compelling arguments both for and against a (U)BI that appeal to those from different parts of the political spectrum.

We'll be looking at an article by Daniel Zamora, The Case Against a Basic Income. Jacobin, 2017 in the light of other articles that make positive arguments for UBI.

By critically looking at the case against a (U)BI we will discuss alternative progressive policies that could lead to similar outcomes and contribute to a viable economy.

Booking is necessary: on signing up we'll send you links to the reading for the discussion.
