Event description

Description

Join the Waikīkī Aquarium for our monthly seminar series on Tuesday, August 27th with Dr. Kristi West, who leads the Marine Mammal Stranding Lab at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa’s Hawaiʻi Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB).

The UH Stranding Lab responds to strandings and conducts cause of death investigations for all dolphins and whales that strand in the main Hawaiian Islands and the US Pacific Island territories. We identify and evaluate threats to cetaceans and will share findings during this talk related to the discovery of infectious diseases and marine debris ingestion. Our laboratory also aims to more broadly understand cetacean health in Hawaiʻi and beyond through collaboration with our greater Pacific partners.

Activities conducted under NOAA permit 18786.
