Event description

Description

“Customers don’t care about your solution. They care about their problems.”

-Dave McClure, Founder, 500 Startups

Businesses FAIL due to a lack of customers. Sounds obvious, right? But truly understanding who the customers are and what they care about is often THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE for any startup company (whether they realize it or not!). Thankfully there are tried-and-true strategies and tactics for evaluating customer needs, as well as a variety of handy tools to help you put planning into action!

Join us for an interactive discussion exploring the Value Proposition Canvas, a lean-startup methodology developed by the creator of the Business Model Canvas, Alex Osterwalder. This full-day workshop will help you:

  • Derive more meaningful insights from your customer interactions

  • Update and implement your business and product strategies

  • Better communicate your unique value to potential customers and investors

About the Instructor: Travis Kahn is an entrepreneur, startup mentor, and marketing & sales specialist with prior experience in both Fortune 500 companies and technology startups. He currently manages both the Health IT Connections Program, a privately funded cluster-development initiative within the health IT sector, and Momentum accelerator program for the New Jersey Innovation Institute @ NJIT. As part of these programs, Travis and his team utilize the Business Model Canvas and methodologies pioneered by Alex Osterwalder to help founders strategize the development and implementation of innovative products and services.

Outside of NJII Travis works with private clients on early-stage strategy and product development. He is an Adjunct Professor at The New School—Parsons where he teaches Entrepreneurship, and was previously Co-Founder of Industry Networks, a media/education startup, as well as an Adjunct Professor at Stevens Institute of Technology (Entrepreneurship). Prior to these roles he was Executive Director of New Jersey’s first technology accelerator, Techlaunch, which he helped build and oversee the launch of 19 new ventures, and held various sales and marketing positions for UBS and Xerox. When not chasing his two young children, he volunteers time mentoring startups and facilitating strategic connections.
