Come for a day, come for five days -- or anything inbetween. Interact with like-minded investors, engage in thought-provoking discussions, explore issues of investment philosophy, discover great ideas and yes, hit the slopes. That is Ideaweek. Join us in incomparable St. Moritz, Switzerland, from February 5-9, 2018.
Ideaweek raison d'être
“A single conversation with a wise person is worth a month's study of books.” --Chinese Proverb
Ideaweek is a showcase of ideas, a platform for great conversations, and an opportunity to catalyze relationships with like-minded individuals. It is a humble attempt to bring together inquisitive minds to explore ideas of consequence in investing, business, and life. Our goal is to curate a global community in which each member adds value to the whole — by sharing his or her unique experience, expertise, and wisdom; and by asking questions that elevate and advance the discussion.
The Tenor of Ideaweek
“Ideal conversation must be an exchange of thought, and not, as many of those who worry most about their shortcomings believe, an eloquent exhibition of wit or oratory.” --Emily Post
We approach all Ideaweek sessions from the vantage point of value-oriented investors with a passion for investing, business, and life. The topic of becoming enlightened “citizens of the world” is of particular relevance. We dedicate a track to ways in which our members can make a positive impact in their communities and, by extension, the world at large.
Of equal importance is the topic of becoming the “best version of ourselves”, i.e., reaching our full potential as investors, spouses/parents, and human beings. We try to approach this topic with the authenticity required to tackle it in a meaningful way while respecting the privacy of every participant.
Each year, the global membership of The Manual of Ideas surfaces key topics of interest to investors worldwide. For example, Ideaweek 2018 will include discussion tracks on
- capital allocation, i.e., how to find the next generation of great owner-operator CEOs;
- business quality, i.e., what business models are likely to prove themselves most resilient in the face of accelerating technological change; and
- contrarian investment ideas, i.e., which companies (and industry segments) are overlooked or shunned by investors for the wrong reasons.
Other topics and specific investment ideas will be explored in accordance with the wishes and preferences of Ideaweek 2018 participants.
Build Your Personal Agenda with Ideabook
“Let us make a special effort to stop communicating with each other, so we can have some conversation.” --Mark Twain
In the months preceding Ideaweek, John Mihaljevic and the team of The Manual of Ideas will reach out to every participant to draw on his or her unique experience, wisdom, and expertise. The ultimate result will be Ideabook 2018. This limited edition, confidential volume will serve both as a source of carefully curated wisdom, insights, and ideas; as well as your personal agenda builder for Ideaweek.
The Ideaweek agenda will be delightfully different from that of a typical conference. Instead of having to sit through presentations of marginal utility to you, and instead of having someone talk at you, the Ideabook agenda builder will guide you through assembling a personalized agenda of small group discussions in which you wish to engage. The topic underlying each session will be previewed in depth in the Ideabook you will receive upon your arrival in St. Moritz. This flexibility -- to dig deep into highly relevant topics and ideas while structuring your day in any way you wish -- is part of what sets Ideaweek apart.
Planning Your Trip
Whether you plan to join us for one day or five days, or anything inbetween, plan to be with us on Thursday, February 8, 2018 -- the Ideaweek Gala Day. That evening, you will have an opportunity to join a gala dinner for all participants, featuring exquisite Swiss cuisine and special "surprises" to be unveiled at the dinner.
Insider tip: Arrive the weekend before or stay the weekend after Ideaweek and experience a one-of-a-kind St. Moritz attraction: White Turf, a unique event featuring horseracing, live music and art exhibitions -- taking place in the winter sunshine on the frozen lake of St. Moritz. The venerable White Turf horseraces take place on the Sundays of February 4, 11 and 18, 2018.
