Description

Ideathon Winner Prize = Whole Genome Sequencing ticket worth $3 billion*

Welcome to the world of whole genome!
Whole genome is a complete set of more than 6 billion DNA sequences of one human, including all of its genes. 15 years ago, it took 15 years and $3 billion to sequence one human whole genome. However, the advance of the sequencing technology has dramatically reduced the cost to $1,000 and it will be less than $100 sometime soon.

In the near future, every single person will own its human code, but we do not know what the world with whole genome will look like. We think this is like 90s of internet where nobody had imagined that Google or Facebook would be born 10 years later.

"G-Supernova" is a series of Hackathon & Ideathon specialized for “Genomic Service Applications” for the world of whole genome. We will have the memorial first event on March 15th at Stanford University! The panel of judges includes 500 Startups and Illumina, and the prize will be Whole Genome Sequencing ticket worth $3 billion!

A healthcare management based on your genome, digitalization of your taste, personality check, body management and further precision medical applications... The applications are infinite. In the world where everybody has whole genome data, what iOS/Android app will be on your iPhone? What services around you will look like?

Join us if you want to be a part of the next genomic revolution!

< What is Whole Genome? >
Whole Genome is a complete set of your human code. We can know a number of valuable information including the risks of diseases, the efficacy of drugs and physical features. With these information we can now choose a personalized way for disease prevention and healthcare management, and the application is already happening in the medical field.

“Genetic Testing” is well-known as one of the applications of genome, but it only reads approximately 0.03% of your genome data while the whole genome sequencing provides 100% of your DNA sequences. In the near future, you will be able to own your whole genome data and utilize it to access to a number of genomic service applications.

< Who should join? >
- Students interested in biotech, especially genomics
- iOS / Android app developer
- Bioinformatician
- Entrepreneur or willing to be
- Designer
- Researcher
- Physicians / Medical researcher

< What you can learn? >
- What is the structure of genome data look like?
- How to create your own service applications through genomic API?
- What you can know from your genome?
- Access to a community of genomic service app developers

< Who is hosting the event? >

Supported by 500 Startups Japan
500 Startups is a global venture capital seed fund and startup accelerator based in Silicon Valley with ~$200M in assets under management. Our team of 100+ people live in over 20 countries and speak over 20 languages, and we have invested in over 1,400 companies from more than 50 countries since our inception in 2010. In addition to making investments globally, we run accelerator programs in San Francisco and Silicon Valley four times per year emphasizing internet marketing and customer acquisition, design and user experience, and lean startup practices and metrics. Our investment team and mentor network has operational experience at companies such as PayPal, Google, Facebook, Amazon, YouTube, Microsoft, Yahoo, LinkedIn, eBay, Twitter and Apple.

Hosted by AWAKENS, Inc.

AWAKENS, Inc. is a startup from Japan, creating a reliable and valuable service ecosystem of whole genome. The members are leading genomic business experts in Japan and scientists from genomics/bioinformatics. Being supported by Illumina and 500 Startups Japan, the company is now developing the first product which will be released in summer 2017. Learn more > http://www.awakens.tokyo/

*"$3 million" is the estimated total cost of whole genome sequencing in the early 2000s.
