Event description

The Ida B. Wells Fall 2017 Self-Defense and Gun Training will take place on November 4, 2017 at a location TBA. This training is for Women of Color (WOC), (cis, queer, trans and anything in between), who are more likely than White women to die as a result of partner abuse, toxic patriarchy and state violence. In addition to receiving basic instruction on lethal and non-lethal self-defense strategies, participants will learn the "ABCs" of gun safety and be given limited target practice. Part of the training will be devoted to a healing circle where participants engage in a group discussion about "lessons learned"--how WOC survive & recover from violence in their lives, communities and the world-at-large.

Given the intense nature of this training registration is limited to six (6) participants who MUST be 18 years or older, Registration slots will be filled on a "first come/first serve" basis. PRIOR to paying registration fees each prospective participant/registrant MUST CAREFULLY READ THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS:

1. A Media Release Form;

2. A Liability Waiver, Indemnification and Emergency Medical Authorization Form

By registering and paying the required registration fee for the "Ida B. Wells Fall 2017 Self-Defense and Gun Training" participants/registrants are deemed to have read and agreed to all the terms and provisions contained in each of the above-listed documents.

Fall 2017 Registration Fee: A non-refundable fee of $50 is required to be paid before registration is considered valid. Requests for fee waivers will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. All such requests should be forwarded to the attention of Lola Rainey, the training coordinator, at idabwellstraining.tucson@gmail.com.

Training Hours. The Training will be 4 hours. 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. In lieu of a one hour break, there will be several shorter breaks throughout the training day. These short breaks will not extend the allotted training time. Inclimate weather conditions may impact the length of the training and if severe enough--may lead to a rescheduling of the entire training.
