Katherine will provide students with an icon example for everyone to work from: we learn both the 'membrane' and 'proplasmos' methods of using traditional egg tempera and pigments. As well as refining our drawing techniques and deepening our knowledge of the icon and Orthodox teaching about them, there is plenty of time for questions and advice on working methods for beginners and experienced students. All working from the same icon example allows us to concentrate on technique and form and maximises individual teaching time. Set in the lush, peaceful countryside of rural Shropshire in the border between England and Wales, Walcot Hall has superb self-catering accommodation and we use one of the largest apartments as a studio. The studio is fully accessible and on the ground floor. Continental breakfast materials are provided, while fully cooked lunches, morning and afternoon coffee are all provided.
