ICICLE 2019 Conference on Learning Engineering
The ICICLE 2019 Conference on Learning Engineering will be a gathering of professionals from industry, academia, and government featuring collaborative sessions organized by ICICLE Special Interest Groups. The event will highlight the state-of-the-art in the profession and academic discipline of Learning Engineering.
The event is organized around three questions:
- What are the competencies of learning engineering?
- What do we know about learning, and what does our knowledge suggest about design of learning experiences, conditions for learning, and use of supporting technologies?
- How will the emerging learning engineering profession address privacy versus personalization?
Topics will include:
- Roles and competencies on the learning engineering team
- What policy/culture changes are needed
- Defining “adaptive” learning
- Masters curriculum for learning engineering
- Integrating learning engineering into Your organization
- The role of the learner in an AI-augmented learning process
- Competencies for learning engineers who design learning experiences

- Organizations ensuring that what they do and create reflects what we know about how people learn

Learning Engineers and those who will work with, hire, or benefit from the solutions developed by learning engineering professionals.
The conference will include bird-of-a-feather tracks for professionals concerned with:
Science and Technology (S&T): software engineers, platform developers, technology standards developers, learning science researchers
Policy, Acquisition, and Management (PAM): institutional leaders, policy makers, procurement professionals, and people responsible for hiring and developing learning engineers
Design and Development (D&D): curriculum designers; instructional designers; designers of online, physical, and hybrid learning environments; learning experience and learning technologies designers and integrators; activity designers in particular disciplines
Publication Opportunity
Following the conference, we will be publishing the 2019 Proceedings of the ICICLE Conference on Learning Engineering. All conference participants are eligible to be published in the Proceedings.
