Event description

Description

Ikebana International, Washington, D.C.,Chapter No.1

Presents a Demonstration by Jeanne Houlton, Ichiyo School Master

Ms. Jeanne Keiyo Houlton, Master of the Ichiyo School of Ikebana was introduced to the art of flower arranging at the age of 24 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She began Sogetsu lessons while managing a career as a fashion merchandise manager. Once retired to Florida, she continued her ikebana studies with the Ichiyo School and subsequently was appointed as Master “Teacher”. She studies with Iemoto Akihiro Kasuya, current head of the Ichiyo School. In addition, Jeanne is President of the Ichiyo Florida Chapter and past president of Ikebana International St. Petersburg Chapter #65.

Jeanne provides many demonstrations and workshops to various organizations, schools, retirement homes, museums, ikebana chapters and garden clubs. In addition, she exhibits and teaches Ichiyo. At the 10th World Ikebana convention she represented North America and the Ichiyo School as one of eight teachers to demonstrate.

The philosophy of Ichiyo Ikebana is truly fulfilling when it is a reflection of the individual arranger’s emotions and characters and fits the environment in which it is displayed. It is not just flowers in a vase; it is considered an art of human communication.

Ichiyo Ikebana has a contemporary style with focus on the innate beauty and energy of flowers and plant life reflecting its naturalness. Ichiyo’s artistic expressions adds greater interest to traditional forms and harmonizes with all interiors and environments.
