Detailed Itinerary
Wednesday, June 15: Departure from JFK - 11:35 pm - Direct flight to Reykjavik

Thursday, June 16 - The Golden Circle
Arrive in Iceland at 9.20 am.  Prepare to venture on the Golden Circle Tour
The Golden Circle Tour encompasses some of the most famous sites in Iceland.  First we will visit the Keridi crater and Faxi waterfall.  From here we will head to the world famous geothermal area of the great Geyser, the one and original hot spring on earth, after which all other hot springs are named after.  We will be able to hike around the bubbling mud pools and venture up a hill to get a panoramic view of the great Geysir.
Continuing west, we’ll come to the majestic Gullfoss (The Golden Waterfall).  Here we will walk down to the edge of the cascade, so close that you can even feel the mist from the glacial water on your face.  Next, we will head to Pingvellir National Park, which is one of the country's most significant historic regions.  Pingvellir is an amazing geological site where the meeting of the tectonic plates of North America and Europe form the picturesque landscape.

In the evening, we will settle into our beautiful cabins.
Overnight Delux Country Cabins

Friday, June 17:  Southern Iceland w/Optional Dog Sledding or Snowmobile
After breakfast, we will continue to see the sights of southern Iceland.  Among en route stops today are Seljalandsfoss, a waterfall you can actually walk behind. Here you will have the choice of hiking or visiting the Saga museum.
We will make a stop at the Eyjafjallajokull glacier that recedes in size more each year.
Another must see on the south side of Iceland is the black beach.  Here there are scenic views of glaciers, woodlands, and other colorful landscape and the ideal spot for the lovers of pure nature.
In the afternoon you will have an optional activity to either snowmobile or dog sled on the Mýrdalsjökull Glacier.
In the late afternoon or evening, horseback riding can be an optional activity at the cabins.
Overnight Delux Country Cabins

Saturday, June 18 - The City of Reykjavik
Today we transfer back to Reykjavik:

The day will be open and there are plenty of ways to explore and experience the city:
-
Hike Mt. Esja, just 20 minutes outside Reykjavik
- On wheels: The bike ride will be an easy 3 hour ride through the old and new areas of Reykjavik, seeing the fast transformation of rural Iceland into urban Reykjavik.  This trip will end at downtown Reykjavik at a favorite bar & grill with the first beer on the house.
- Sign up for
a whale watching tour.
- Alternate idea, just shop and relax in this quaint city.

Optional Highlight:  A visit to
the Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon is a geothermal spa and the perfect way to end a trip to Iceland.
You can relax in the warm geothermal seawater in a fascinating steamy environment and is a one-of-a-kind experience.  It is famous for its unique active ingredients and their effects on body and soul.

In the evening, this will be the chance to enjoy one of the top ten party cities!
Suggested group dinner and a night out and about.
Overnight Hotel Reykjavik

Feedback / Comments:
Igor, Ernest - Thanks for a great trip to Iceland!
We had such a great time - we're interested in the Machu Picchu trip this September.
How many spots are available?
Thanks, Theresa P & Co. - June, 2011

Full Packing List will be sent out; however, quick heads up: Bring a towel for the hot springs and hot tub, etc...

General ...Are you going on the trip as a guide?
>> Yes, we will post one or two guides from New York or the US

Air travel ...Thanks for sending out the reservation code.  Assuming that I will go to the Iceland Air ticket counter and get my ticket using the reservation code?
...When checking seat assignments, I saw the following in the reservation "Your trip is confirmed and the reservation is guaranteed as soon as payment is processed."  Would you confirm that the payment tendered to you has been passed along to Iceland Air?
>> You are all confirmed - please meet Sam and Glenn at the gate - post check in tomorrow:

Additional costs (please provide (a) estimates in USD and (b) whether Visa cards are accepted)
...which activies specifically are considered "optional" (i.e., not included in the package price)?
...would you list the approximate cost for each of the "optional" activities?  Amount of cancellation fees, if applicable?
...group meals?
...any tariffs or additional fees?
...any additional transportation costs?
...anything else (besides shopping sprees)?
 >> for most activities you will be able to pay with credit card; some require cash: exchange rage at US$ 1 to 115 approximate:
>> the link to the Adventure Company listed the prices; meals and otherwise expect at least NYC prices or a bit higher...
>> ATMs available at airport or the city to take out money - right next to the Adventure Store

Accommodations
...will you assign rooms by smoking/non-smoking? (I'm a non-smoker and would guess that most people signed up for the trip would be too, but ya' never know...)
 >> if smoking becomes a problem; please ask Sam to switch you around...

* * *

1)Can you please clarify the plan for monday. Website says whale watching in the morning and heading to blue lagoon after lunch. Your last email said blue lagoon after breakfast. Can we do whale watching on sunday instead of bike ride?
>> you can interchange almost all the activities:  Skip the Bike Ride and go watch whales - yes:

2) I have not hiked before, how long are we hiking each day? Can you please recommend what clothes, shoes to bring?
>> The hikes are very very easy; can be done in sneakers...

* * *

The activities that are listed on the itinerary, are those all paid for?
Obviously the 'optional' things are not.  I'm just confused on this booking thing once we land.
>> As listed - the tours / hikes are included:  Adventure Tours; Blue Lagoon, Massages; Whale Watching, those are separate...

Is the Blue Lagoon admittance fee covered?  >> No
Do we need to exchange money here?  I'm assuming they take credit cards there.
>> Yes, CC !  Plus use ATMs to draw ISK
Do we need Yak Tracks? >> I do not even know what that is...?
Is it easier to convert some money into the Icelandic Krona (ISK) before we go? >> I don't think so...
Are there certain things that we NEED ISK for? >> Mostly Adventure Tours and food and drinks and optionals...
How is the check-in in NY going to work?  Are the tickets issued to each one of us?  >> you can check in individually:
Is there anyway we can have our luggage transferred so we don't have to go back through security?
>> NO, you need to re-check

Do we need a plug-in converter for plugs?
>> Supplemental: Also any additional info that you can provided ?
