Description

I/C Book Club Reads:
The Warmth of Other Suns by Isabel Wilkerson

Recommended by artist Shamira Wilson, “in this epic, beautifully written masterwork, Pulitzer Prize–winning author Isabel Wilkerson chronicles one of the great untold stories of American history: the decades-long migration of black citizens who fled the South for northern and western cities, in search of a better life." (from the publisher). Participants are urged to read the books, collect the stickers, get a reward! Thanks to King Dough for sponsoring I/C Book Club.

Guests should bring the book to the discussion. BookFinder is a great resource! If purchasing a book is a financial difficulty, I/C may be able to help. Please contact hello@indcontemporay.org.

This book club is part of the site-specific installation, “Where Do We Go From Here?”, by Shamira Wilson. The work documents the story of changes occurring in city infrastructure by experimenting with the language of construction materials: their structure, graphics, textures, and juxtaposition with nature. The site-specific installation employs rusted construction ReMesh in an oxidation printing method, transferring gridded rust imprints onto fabric.

Presented by Indianapolis Contemporary in partnership with Milhaus.
