Event description

Description

Register here for your group field trip to the Boise River banding station! We welcome school groups, scout groups, birdwatching groups and more. We can host groups of up to 35 students. If you have a larger group, please register for two separate banding days.

If you are a small group (less than 10 people) or family, feel free to stop by any time during our banding hours. No need to register. Check the weather forecast the day of, since we do not band in inclement weather.

Join the Intermountain Bird Observatory crew for a morning of songbird banding at our beautiful Boise River site! We will be catching, banding, and releasing wild songbirds for 5 hours each morning as part of our standardized migration monitoring protocol. Plan to arrive before 10am and plan to stay at least an hour to have the best chance of seeing birds.

This event is free! There is a suggested donation of $5 per person if you are able. This project is funded 100% by donations from visitors like you. Thank you!

**Parking and other important details here: http://ibo.boisestate.edu/boiseriver/ **

Attendees will be able to see songbirds up close as they are measured, weighed, and tagged by IBO biologists. Depending on how many birds we catch, visitors will be able to help release the birds by holding out thier hand as a release platform.

All ages are welcome. This site is somewhat handicap accessible (but please contact us for details).

Bird banding is unpredictable. We cannot promise that we will catch birds. However, the riparian vegetation at this site provides excellent habitat for songbirds, so chances are good you will see birds, especially if you arrive before 10am.
