Bring your laptop (and IoT device) and work with IBM experts!
The evening will begin with an introduction to Node-RED, a browser-based graphical flow editor of drag-n-drop blocks (called a node) of functionality that make it easy to connect IoT devices together. You will learn how easy it is to connect to Internet of Things devices, IBM Watson services such as Personality Insights, AlchemyAPI, Weather Company Data and other IBM Bluemix services, and send text messages with Twilio and tweets with Twitter.
Spend the rest of the evening hacking together an idea, either with hardware you bring or an application that simulates a device.
All skill levels are welcome to join. No Internet of Things or hardware experience is necessary, we'll have tutorials for you to follow step by step through using a simulated device. A laptop, a willingness to try something new and meet a new friend, is all that is required.
If you bring your own IoT device, please bring any keyboard, mouse, monitor, and accessories you need to connect. We will only have wifi and power. Don't have an IoT device? We have a fully simulated IoT device you can use on your laptop or smartphone.
6:00 - 6:30 Registration, Pizza and Networking
6:30 - 7:00 Let's learn about Node-RED and Watson the IoT Platform
7:00 - 8:30 What can you build? Team up with a couple others and either work through a lab and/or expand on the sample given. No idea is too simple or stupid.
8:30 - 9:00 Show and tell: share what you either built, or the idea you would build given more time
