Event Details

The 'I, Too, Am Harvard Blacktivism Conference 2014' is an intercollegiate conference focused on exploring advocacy efforts specific to Black collegiate students’ interests. Though originally inspired by the ‘I, Too, Am Harvard’ and subsequent ‘I, Too’ movements launched in spring 2014, this conference seeks to provide a platform for black students to discuss the issues we face on our campuses and in our communities of color, while making long-lasting connections with similarly minded students. From organizing and advocacy development workshops to events with blacktivist alumni to socials, this conference will equip students with the tools needed to make meaningful changes on their respective campuses and beyond.

FAQs:

  • Who can attend this conference?

    • All current undergraduates are welcome to attend. There will be a limited number of spots available for graduate students to purchase and we will also be using donations to sponsor a few local high school students to attend the conference for free.

  • I'm not a black student. Is this conference for me?

    • While allyship is important and appreciated, all attendees should understand that this conference is focused on creating a space for black students to address issues relevant to their communities. Therefore we ask you to please consider the limited number of spots we have available and be respectful of the space we are seeking to cultivate with this conference.

  • How many people from my school can attend the conference?

    • Due to the limited number of spots available, and our desire for a diverse collection of experiences to be represented at the conference, we ask that you please limit your respective campus registration to ten students.

  • What if I can only attend 1 day of the conference? Is that possible?

    • Since the majority of the conference events will take place on Saturday, you must be able to check in and register by Saturday morning in order to be an official conference attendee. Normal registration fee will apply.

  • Is there financial aid available?

    • Unfortunately, we are unable to provide financial aid for conference attendees. However, we strongly urge you to apply for funding from your respective university, as many institutions have funding for diversity programming.

  • Where will I be housed?

    • Each conference attendee who designates on their registration that they will require housing will be hosted by a Harvard undergraduate. There is no discount if you do not require on-campus housing.

  • Are meals provided under the registration costs or should I bring money for food?

    • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday are provided, in addition to brunch on Sunday. Light snacks and refreshments will also be provided at the welcome mixer on Friday. For the remaining unprovided meals (dinner on Saturday and dinner on Sunday), we are currently working with local businesses in Harvard Square to provide discounts for conference attendees. However you should plan on bringing enough money to buy the remaining unprovided meals.

  • What does my registration fee cover?

    • Your registration fee finances conference programming and activities, four full meals, conference materials, and a weekend of fun!

  • I’m not from the NE area and not used to the cold. What should I pack for Boston in October?
    • Boston's weather is extremely unpredictable. Check the weather constantly prior to your arrival. It will be mid-October, so a little chilly.
