Event description

Description

Objective of the Exhibit:

Promote awareness, enhance learning and foster deeper understanding through the arts of how immigrant experience can reframe the dialogues across the United States and the different parts of the world where migrants are.

Exhibit Description:

“I Migrant” is an art exhibit that will convey social stories on immigration and integration that will initiate conversations concerning the artists’ personal experience about the major issues that shaped their collective memories being in a dominant culture.

The intermingling of ideas and sharing of experiences have brought about a new paradigm in the styles of the artists as can be seen in the different canvases. The styles have been acculturated having been influenced by the dominant culture. Although the individual styles of the artists have been acculturated, the artists’ own cultural stories and connotations are somehow still evident bringing about significant conversations.

The artists in this exhibit believe that it is through the fusion of ideas that cultures become a relevant powerful statement. It is expected that this exhibit will create discussions about the lessons learned from the different experiences of the artists as migrants in the culture they are in/or they have been.

Participating Artists are: Roberto Carlos, Bernadette Escalona-Cooper, Julio “Jojo” Austria, Mel Vera-Cruz, Michaelangelo Mayo, Reuben Pagaduan, Reynante Carandang, Mildred Realuyo, Sal Bhudz Floriano
