I MATTER 2019 Teen Spectacular!

registration begins at 12:30

A day of empowerment, knowledge and keeping our girls SAFE

Calling all teen girls, moms and mentors!

The non-profit, Love Without Hurt, brings meaningful speakers and presenters to educate teens about healthy relationships and self respect. With Dr. Lisa Hinkelman, as our Keynote Speaker, desserts, break out workshops, and gift bags, the day promises to positively impact all who attend.

After you register for your ticket, please check ONE workshop choice. We will try to accomodate your choices, but once a workshop is filled, you will need to select one that still has space.

Workshop descriptions:

1) Self Defense with Aaron Jannetti, Endeavor Defense and Fitness: Learn the fundamentals of defending yourself. Learn how to recognize attacks, strikes, deal with common grabs and get to safety.

2) Digital Dating Abuse, Caitlin Tully, Family Center for Safety and Healing: Instagram. Snapchat. Sarahah. This interactive session will explore the positive and negative impact of technology in relationships, from Snapstreaks to stalking and beyond. We’ll also talk about digital resources that can help to keep you safe. Be sure to bring your phone!

3) Empowered Girls, Empower Girls, Lauren Hancock: Girls will explore the competitive culture that sometimes exists among girls and the value in changing this to one of support and encouragement. You will also explore your assertive rights and learn assertive communication skills. Participants will leave knowing how to stand up for themselves in tough situations while maintaining a culture of support and respect among girls.

4) Anxiety Sisters, Maggie Sarachek and Abbe Greenberg: Why do we have anxiety? How anxiety works in our brains, how it feels in our bodies, and how to manage it. Learn anxiety management techniquest that are accessible and easy to do anytime in any place.

5) No More Bandages, Diona Clark, domestic violence survivor: Participants will learn ways of recognizing domestic violence. Learn to be comfortable in sharing experiences with others and how to leave an unhealthy relationship.

6) Urban Zen, Lori Bower: Come discover the path for renewing, restoring and healing for anyone who may be stressed, anxious or exhausted. Urban Zen is a blend of gentle movements, restorative yoga poses, aromatherapy, reiki, breath practices and guided meditation leaving you feeling calm and relaxed. No yoga experience necessary.

7) Surviving the Dark, a personal story of human trafficking, Vanessa Perkins.

Key Note Speaker:

Dr. Lisa Hinkelman is an educator, counselor, researcher, and author who has spent nearly fifteen years researching girls and educating counselors as both as a professor at The Ohio State University and as the Founder and CEO of Ruling Our eXperiences (ROX). ROX is a national non-profit that provides evidence-based empowerment programming for girls, professional development for counselors and educators, and research on the critical issues impacting girls. Lisa is the author of the award-winning book, ‘Girls Without Limits: Helping Girls Achieve Healthy Relationships, Academic Success, and Interpersonal Strength’, and also authored The Girls’ Index: New Insights Into the Complex World of Today’s Girls. Lisa received her undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Education from Chatham College in Pittsburgh, PA and her master’s and doctorate degrees in Counselor Education from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio.
