Jack London Aquatic Center On-the-Water Trash Cleanup!

We invite you on a Grand-Garbage-Go-Getting-Adventure, connect with nature, protect and clean your waterways, love your land while having FUN with your community.

We'll have cleanup teams working “On the Water” via kayak, boat, and stand up paddle board. Team captains will lead groups to shoreline garbage hotspots that are only accessible by watercraft. (Rental kayaks available - details below.) If you do not want to be "On the Water" we'll need "On the Land" volunteers.

Hosted by I Heart Alameda & Oakland Estuary, Mary Spicer and the City of Oakland. Event Partners: California Canoe and Kayak, East Bay Rowing Club, The Clean Water Program & more to come.

IF YOU ARE RENTING A KAYAK REGISTER AT THE FAREHORBOR LINK BELOW > Kayaks are available to rent at a super discounted rate of $25 for unlimited paddling time/$40 for a double kayak, thanks to our event partner at California Canoe and Kayak!

Plan to pick up your watercraft at California Canoe and Kayak( CCK). Please give yourself time to park, get your gear, pay and get down to the dock and on the water by 8:30 AM. Our event guides will meet you at CCK and will leave the dock at CCK at 8:30 AM to guide you to the Jack London Aquatic Center (JLAC) site.

MOST IMPORTANT: Wear sturdy shoes to protect your feet when you walk the shores.

BRING: A water bottle, snacks, a coffee mug or thermos, sunscreen, an extra layer, and sturdy shoes (even if you are paddling). We'll have cleanup supplies on site, but feel free to bring your own gloves/buckets/bags if you'd rather use your own!

SCHEDULE:

9:00 AM SIGN IN - All volunteers sign in at JLAC. Including paddlers that rented and paddled from CCK to JLAC.

9:30 AM- Welcome Orientation & Safety Talk. Please don’t clean until you listen to the safety talk. Clean up teams will be assigned at this time.

9:50 AM to 12 PM - Trash cleanup! We have a lot of garbage to GET.

12:30 PM - THANK YOU! We'll come back together for giveaways, and to load up the City of Oakland trash truck with our garbage finds.

1:00 PM - End!

CALIFORNIA CANOE AND KAYAK :www.calkayak.com - Cal Canoe and Kayak has been getting folks out paddling on the Bay since 1972! They're a tried and true local treasure, and have generously provided discounted watercraft rentals to our Estuary Paddle Cleanups.

THE CLEAN WATER PROGRAM: www.cleanwaterprogram.org The Clean Water Program works to keep pollutants like litter, pesticides, automotive chemicals and other harmful substances out of Alameda County’s creeks, wetlands and the Bay. Their annual grants fund pollution prevention projects led by community-based organizations to support the Program’s efforts. The Program also helps business owners and managers understand water pollution prevention regulations that affect them, and adopt best practices to stay in compliance.
