Event description

Description

“‘I Got a Lust for Life’: The Unique Words and Sounds of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan” is a free and public series of panel discussions, poetry readings, and musical performances, reflecting the impact of the African American Great Migration on literary and musical expression in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. The program takes place at multiple venues: from Wayne State University, to the Toledo Lucas County Public Library, to the Toledo Museum of Art.

The program kicks off on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at 10:00 AM in Detroit: at Wayne State University in the Schaver Music Recital Hall, Old Main with a panel discussion. Back in Toledo, starting at 2:30 PM, join us for a poetry reading by Tyehimba Jess at the Toledo Lucas County Public Library in the McMaster Center of the Main Library, in downtown Toledo. You are invited to stick around for a second panel discussion starting at 6:00 PM at the Toledo Museum of Art in the GlasSalon, Glass Pavilion.

WE ONLY HAVE 2 OPTIONS.

PLEASE NOTE: If you’re already in Toledo, you ONLY need to sign up for Option 1 below — the bus ride to Detroit and back! The only reason you might need to sign up for Option 2 is if you live in the Detroit area and you want to go to Toledo and back. If you are coming from Toledo, please do not sign up for the Detroit pick-up! Contact us if you have questions!!
