Grieving is not just about the death of a loved one. It’s much deeper than that. When we can help a client identify a loss and help him or her to grieve it, the client can begin to heal and even learn tools to adapt well to future losses.

Objective: Noticing the loss in the client’s story:

A story of mine and client sample stories
Interactive tool--identifying losses in the stories

Objective: Valuing the act of grieving: how does it contribute to healing?

Differential diagnoses: bereavement, depression and PTSD
Cliches and misinformation about grief
Health benefits of grieving

Objective: Latest research and best interventions for helping clients heal:

DBT, mindfulness, therapeutic writing, and other tools

Objective: Finding meaning in the losses:

Ritual--with interactive tool: symbolically laying down the losses
Lament--embracing versus avoiding the sadness
Inspirational presentation about the adaptability of the octopus--with octopus stress balls for
attendees

Presenter: Lisa Simon LPCC

Please note: this venue is not handicap accessible. We plan to film the material on a separate date to make available as an online CEU option.
