Event description

Description

Target Audience: DCAC Staff and All Members of the Dallas County MDT from all disciplines

The information we can gather from a child can sometimes be the most critical piece of evidence in an investigation, but it can also be what draws more attacks from defense attorneys in the courtroom. It's for this reason that it is critical to have well trained neutral third party professionals gather information from children in a non-leading and legally-defensible manner. There really is a purpose to everything the interviewers do and say when talking with a child. This course is designed to give participants an indepth view into the field of forensic interviewing. This course is not intended to teach participants to conduct forensic interviews, but rather to help them better understand the process and the role it plays in the criminal and civil investigation as well as the laws and relevant research that guides best practice. The goal is to have MDT members armed with information to help them work seamlessly with the forensic interview team by knowing the limits of what can be asked and what children should be expected to answer. Topics will include a history of the evolution of forensic interviewing, protocol, legalities and limitations, child development, memory and suggestability, and video clips.

Lunch will be served at 12:30pm. The training will begin at 1:00pm.
